About the Project
Built in 1956, the Broadway Market welcomes about 200,000 visitors every Easter — but its 90,000 square feet are far more than the market needs the rest of the year. Empire State Development and Broadway Market Management, Inc., the nonprofit that now manages the market, are leading a transformation to make it a year-round destination for East Side residents and all of Western New York.
The market will stay open during construction.
Year-round vendors come together along one central corridor running from the front entrance to the back, with dramatic new entrances.
The rear parking garage comes down, making room for a surface lot, a rear entrance and a loading dock so trucks can unload straight into the market.
One wing becomes production space for vendors who make their goods. Another becomes flex space that opens up for busy seasons.
Major mechanical upgrades, including a new centralized cold storage area for vendors.

The market stayed open until 6 PM so guests could shop and support local vendors.
